Premiere of the documentary “Science of the Sea”

An exclusive premiere of the documentary “Science of the Sea” was held on 9th December 2022 in Sofia. The movie presents the activities of the Institute of Oceanology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and their impact for assessing the biodiversity, the state of water and populations of marine species in the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

The expert work in this national marine center helps for establishing a strategy for sustainable development and management of the Black Sea ecosystem. The research priority areas of the Institute are geomorphology, climatology, morphodynamics of the seabed and coastal zone, hydrology, biology, ecology of the sea.

The team of Beardfrost productions filmed Nikolay Valchev, Director of the Institute, and his colleagues during an expedition with the research vessel “Academic” as well as in the laboratories. To tell us the story, the camera seized breathtaking views of the littoral, data capture by a drone, impressive moments of the scientists’ routine, discussions on actual problems of the marine environment and possible solutions.

“Science of the Sea”, realized with the support of TotalEnergies, invites the viewers to dive into the vast marine world and to learn how they can protect it.

As of 2023 projections of the movie will be organized in several towns and schools.
